Hotel della Conciliazione
This is one of the most famous hotels near the Vatican. From here, you can actually see the colonnade surrounding St. Peter’s Square and Basilica, and obviously, also the Vatican Museums are within an easy and short stroll.
The location is excellent also for the night as it’s very central, close to restaurants and pubs, as well as a lovely place for an evening walk to admire the lights of St. Peter’s Square.
The rooms are very comfortable and perfect to chill out with some TV show, a drink or a shower or bath in your private. Among the other facilities are a writing desk and a minibar.
This is a 4-star hotel very close to St. Peter’s Square and Basilica while on the other side is Stazione San Pietro train station, easy to reach in a few minutes on foot.

Located some 5 minutes walk from St. Peter’s Square and less than 10 minutes from the Vatican Museums, this central Rome boutique hotel is really one of the best closest accommodations from the Holy See and a great starting point for visiting the Vatican.
From here, you are also close to the Hadrian Mausoleum, worth a visit, and the river that you can cross via Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II, Ponte Sant’Angelo or Ponte Umberto I, some of the most beautiful bridges in Rome.

Located on the other side of the Vatican City from Prati and Trionfale neighborhoods, Hotel Paolo II is close to San Pietro train station where you can catch a train to many other districts such as Ostiense and Testaccio (also a connection with metro line B), Tiburtina as well as the line A of the metro with one stop to Valle Aurelia.
Going towards the Vatican, on roads like Via di Porta Cavalleggeri and Via delle Fornaci, you will find several bars and restaurants, many pretty touristy but some worth a try. We had a nice fish-based meal at “I Quattro Mori Hostaria” (Via di Santa Maria delle Fornaci 8).
The bus that you will find from Stazione San Pietro all the way to Termini station through the city center is the 64: very handy, you will likely take it many times but be careful to your belongings as it’s a pickpocket’s favorite.
The hotel itself, set in an early 20th-century palazzo, offers double, twin and single rooms complete with a modern private bathroom. A travelers’ favorite, Quiriti Vatican Relais is nestled in one of the backstreets of the Prati neighborhood around Via Cola di Rienzo. This is a great location for just about anything you are looking for nice stores, grocery shops, and phone shops if you want to buy an Italian Sim card, well-connected to other areas with buses and metro (Lepanto and Ottaviano are the closest), most highlights easy to reach and close to all Vatican landmarks.
This is a residential area and while the day is busy with workers and residents carrying on with their chores, in the evening it’s quite calm and nice to spend some time out in local restaurants such as Velavevodetto ai Quiriti, Napul’è, Flower Burger, and La Pratolina, or local coffee shops and pubs such as the excellent Sciascia Caffè 1919 (closes at 8 pm), La Zanzara Bistrot and TED Lobsters & Burgers for a nice aperitif.

Best Rome apartments near the Vatican
Vatican White Domus
If you would rather prefer the privacy of a house for your holiday, Vatican White Domus is one of the best Rome apartments near Vatican City.
This neighborhood is central but relaxing, you are close to the metro line A (Cipro station), nice groceries including the huge Mercato Trionfale local food market and NaturaSì organic store (Via Bettolo 44), perfect if you want to do your shopping and make your meals at home instead of dining every day out.
Here you will find nice eateries, too, like Bonci Pizzarium in Via della Meloria, right after Cipro metro, for one of the best pizza by the slice in Rome that you can comfortably enjoy at home which is 5 minutes walk away.

Another favorite apartment in Trionfale area is Lilli Vatican White Domus, finely decorated with white and pastel colors, well-furnished and equipped with all necessary services and facilities.
Just like the previous apartment, this is almost the same location, so you are also close to Mercato Trionfale, NaturaSì, Bonci Pizzarium and Cipro metro station. Some of the groceries also close to this apartment are Carrefour and the discount Todis, where you find good prices and some good products, also in their organic section.
The neighborhood is central but also residential so you will have a good glimpse into the local life with the benefit of easily reaching the most popular landmarks.
The Vatican Museums are easy to reach with a short stroll and if one day you don’t feel like cooking, your house is surrounded by local restaurants where you can have a nice meal without spending too much.
Your large kitchen includes dining table, fridge, microwave, oven, stovetop, toaster, kitchenware and coffee machine. In the house, you will also find a washing machine, a drying rack for clothes, a bathroom with shower or bathtub, ironing facilities, a sitting area and a sofa bed.

La Porta Rossa di Borgo – Vatican Luxury Suite
A privileged position right between St. Peter’s Square and Hadrian Mausoleum (Castel Sant’Angelo), this is one of the top luxury apartments in Rome near Vatican City.
The location is really one of the best you can find as everything is within a pleasant stroll reach. Going up along Via della Conciliazione, you reach Piazza San Pietro and the Basilica, while moving towards the Hadrian Mausoleum, you cross the river and you are in Corso Vittorio Emanuele around Chiesa Nuova, Via dei Banchi Vecchi, Campo de’ Fiori, Piazza Navona and all the highlights of the city centre.
This beautiful apartment in central Rome is in Borgo Pio, a quaint quarter built during the Papal Kingdom that so much evokes those times. Close to LUMSA university in Via della Traspontina, from here you can also easily reach the metro and several buses on Viale Giulio Cesare, Piazza Risorgimento, Via Crescenzio or Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

If you don’t feel like cooking, the area brims with local restaurants worth a try, such as Porto in Via Crescenzio and TED Lobsters & Burgers in Via Terenzio. I would avoid the restaurants in Via della Conciliazione right on St. Peter’s Square as they are overly touristy so I can’t guarantee about the quality.

Close to Piazza Risorgimento and a few minutes walk from St. Peter’s Square, Le Cupoline is one of the favorite apartments in Rome near the Vatican.
Close to Ottaviano metro station, the building is between Via Ottaviano and Via Cola di Rienzo, two shopping streets with clothes and shoe stores to meet every preference.
From the apartment, you can either take the metro, catch a bus or walk to the main highlights of the city center, while in the evening you can have a relaxing dinner at home or try one of the many restaurants around your homestay. For grocery shopping, you can visit the local market in Piazza dell’Unità, off Cola di Rienzo road by street number 245.

The nearest metro station is Ottaviano (line A) and it’s close to several buses and tram 19. For grocery shopping, you can visit Trionfale’s local food market in Via Andrea Doria or the excellent NaturaSì organic food store.
