One of the very first things to consider when planning a trip is where you will stay. Hotels are an essential factor and they can really make or break your holiday if the services are not as expected or as desired. Our Rome accommodation guide wants to be a reference point for travelers who are not sure where the best part of town to stay is, whether they are first-time visitors or Rome connoisseurs.
There are many factors to consider when looking for a hotel in Rome. Among these, a major role is played by the location, so if you want to be close to the main attractions, prefer quieter neighborhoods, or are near Termini Station, the price especially if you are on a budget, and the amenities and facilities you want your accommodation to provide, whether it’s a pool, an in-house restaurant, a gym, or a spa.
My Rome accommodation guide will help you navigate the local hotels by area, budget, and amenities so that you can make an informed decision when you are in the planning stage.
Rome accommodation by neighborhood
When looking for the perfect accommodation for you and your group, one of the first things you look into is finding the right neighborhood in Rome. Do you prefer to be in the heart of everything or would you rather stay in a quieter, more residential area?
Do you need to be near Stazione Termini to catch a train early in the morning to another region in Italy or you can afford to sleep late and prefer not to depend on public transport?
Rome is huge and each neighborhood has its own character and features and how you pick one rather than another one is really a matter of your needs and preferences.
If you are traveling with children, these are the neighborhoods I suggest.

Rome accommodation by budget + type
Another major factor when booking your accommodation in Rome is how much you are willing to spend. To find the cheapest hotel rooms in Rome, there are a few crucial factors to keep in mind that can heavily affect the price. First of all the location, the more central, the pricier, but also the time of the year because off-season is generally cheaper, and obviously the amenities and facilities your accommodation features.
As a general rule, the closer you are to the historic center and famous landmarks, the more the prices go up. However, also in the center, you can find more affordable accommodations such as basic B&Bs and apartments. But in general, you need to keep in mind that the same type of accommodation will be cheaper in more residential districts.
Apart from the costs, and in some way quite connected, is the choice of accommodation based on what type of hotel you would like. Do you fancy cool design furnishing? Then a boutique hotel might be your best bet. Are you looking for a pampering holiday with all the comforts? You can opt for a luxury hotel with spa services and maybe even a pool.

Rome hotels near the main landmarks
Very often, first-time visitors to Rome worry about getting around the city and navigating the modes of public transport. Believe me, I hear you. If you don’t want to rely on buses and metro every time you are going sightseeing or to go back to your hotel in the evening, you can opt for a hotel in the surroundings of the most popular landmarks such as the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps.
